Dear Simpsonville Baptist Faith Family,

We have been monitoring events concerning the spread of the Coronavirus. We had written you on Wednesday afternoon saying we were having church on Sunday, March 15. In the meantime, more community spread has caused local, state, and national cancellations.

In the last 24 hours, cancellations have escalated with school districts for three weeks; with high school, college and professional sports for weeks or for the season; with on-campus classes for colleges for the remainder of the semester; and now churches. The flagship church in the Louisville area, SouthEast, has cancelled this Sunday.

Everyone is being encouraged to cooperate with social distancing for the next three weeks to see if that helps stem the tide of Coronavirus. Some have felt that adults should be able to make their own free decisions whether to attend worship and church activities. Others have said we have an obligation to protect others by cancelling group activity. Concern has especially been stated for the elderly (above 60), those with chronic lung illnesses, and others with underlying health conditions.

To our knowledge, we currently don’t have any cases of Coronavirus in Shelby County. However, it is escalating in Jefferson County and the community spread is sure to come to Shelby County. One thing we know is those with the most information (health professionals & government officials) are urging everyone to be cautious by the closure of most institutions.

With the current Coronavirus context and likelihood of community spread, we will cancel worship and all SBC activities from now through April 4. One of Simpsonville Baptist Church’s biggest discoveries in the last 24 hours is a shortage of teachers and volunteers for this coming Sunday morning. This says much about the concern our church has for the virus.

  • We will begin offering worship on FaceBook live streaming at 9:45am each Sunday.
  • We will announce a new schedule of dates for our Immeasurably More Ministry meeting, Prayer times, and Pledge and Gift Day.
  • We will continue to monitor the Coronavirus through publications of the Center for Disease Control, health professionals, and government.
  • The church offices will be open and the staff will be accessible.

Many of you will ask how can you can continue to support the church financially. Staff and fixed costs have to continue to be paid. You may schedule routine gifts to the church by clicking on EasyTithe on our website at www.simpsonvillebaptist.com. You may also mail your tithes and offerings to P.O. Box 56, Simpsonville, KY 40067.

We will continue to pray for God’s wisdom and direction for our church, health caregivers, and government leadership. We pray an end to Coronavirus very soon in order that lives may be saved. We pray that Jesus may be glorified through this time.
