What We Believe

Simpsonville Baptist Church affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 in its entirety. For a more comprehensive understanding of our beliefs, please refer to the larger statement of faith below.
Scripture
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired by God and is His revelation of Himself to humanity. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction, having God as its author, salvation as its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, as its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is completely true and trustworthy.

Scripture reveals the principles by which God judges us and, therefore, is and will remain to the end of the world the true center of Christian unity and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, and religious opinions are to be tested. All Scripture bears witness to Christ, who is Himself the focus and fulfillment of divine revelation.
God
There is only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being—the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and perfect in all His attributes. He is all-powerful and all-knowing, and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures.

Therefore, God is worthy of our highest love, reverence, and obedience. The one true and eternal God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each possessing distinct personal attributes, yet without division of nature, essence, or being.
Man
Man is the special creation of God, made in His own image as male and female and the crowning work of His creation. Though created innocent and free to choose, man sinned against God and fell from his original innocence, bringing sin and its consequences into the human race. As a result, every person inherits a nature inclined toward sin and, when capable of moral action, becomes a transgressor under condemnation.

Only the grace of God can restore mankind to fellowship with Him and enable them to fulfill their God-given purposes. Yet every person possesses inherent dignity and worth because they are made in the image of God and because Christ died for them. Therefore, every person of every race is worthy of respect and Christian love.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became fully man while remaining fully God. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitute for sinners, bearing the penalty for our sins, and physically rose from the grave, conquering sin and death and securing salvation for all who repent and believe in Him.

(John 1:14; 1 Peter 2:21-22; Acts 4:10; Philippians 2:7-11; Luke 23:26-24: 53)
Salvation
Salvation is the redemption of the whole person and is offered freely to all who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Through His death and resurrection, Christ secured eternal redemption for all who believe in Him. Salvation is something we do not inherit by our works, but rather it is a free gift from God that we receive by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

(John 6:37-40; John 10:27-30; Romans 8:1; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-10)
The Church
A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the-earth.
Evangelism and Missions
It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and every church to make disciples of all nations. Because the Holy Spirit gives new life and produces love for others, every believer is called to share the gospel with the lost. Christ has commanded His followers to proclaim the gospel to all nations, seeking to lead others to faith in Him through faithful verbal witness, a Christlike life, and every means consistent with the gospel.

(Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8)
