Why Baptism?

Jesus Christ modeled a baptism of repentance. Here at Simpsonville Baptist Church we believe that baptism is an act of obedience towards God and is an outward expression of your inward decision to follow Jesus.

Baptism FAQs

What does baptism mean?
Baptism is a picture of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3–4). Going under the water represents dying to your old life, and coming up represents being raised to new life in Christ.
Does baptism save you?
No. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9). Baptism is not what saves you—it’s an act of obedience that publicly shows what Jesus has already done in your life.
Who should be baptized?
Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord. In the New Testament, baptism always follows belief (Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12).
What if I was baptized as a baby?
At Simpsonville Baptist, we practice believer’s baptism—meaning baptism happens after you personally choose to follow Jesus. If you were baptized as an infant, we encourage you to be baptized again as a public declaration of your own faith.
How do you baptize people?
We baptize by immersion (going completely under the water) because that’s the example we see in Scripture and the meaning of the word “baptize.”
When can I be baptized?
We can schedule baptisms during any worship service. Just fill out the baptism form, and a pastor on staff will connect with you.
Can my family and friends be there?
Absolutely! We encourage you to invite as many people as possible to celebrate with you. Baptism is a powerful testimony to others of what God has done in your life.
What should I bring?
We’ll provide the details when you meet with a pastor, but typically you’ll want a change of clothes and anything you need for after the baptism takes place.
